Download and install Principalm Connect
Install Principalm Connect on the computer you will use to transfer SIS data to your handheld. This does not have to be the same computer as the one that holds your school’s SIS database or the output SIS data files for Principalm. If you do not install Principalm Connect on the same computer where the files are located, you must have access to a Shared Network to be able to upload them to Principalm.

Add School(s)
Click “Add my first school now….” The Add School dialog is where you enter your license information for Principalm. Licenses are entered on a per-school basis. Enter the activation key provided to you and click “OK”. For instructions on entering your license see here

Configure your SIS Bridge Settings
The SIS Bridge configuration tells Principalm Connect where to find data exported from your administration system. Click “Choose” to select the folder you extracted the data to. Click “OK”.
School Number Is only required for some SIS bridges. Please consult your SIS Bridge documentation for instructions on this number.

Configure your Student Photo settings
The Student Photos settings tell Principalm Connect where to find your student photo data. Follow these steps:

Folder – Click “Choose” to select the folder where your photos are stored. Click “OK”.

Identified By – Select the data element that is used to identify your photos. Choose from – Student Number, SSN, State ID and Photo ID.

Index File – If your photos are mapped to the student number using an index file, click “Choose” to select the index file.

Crop photos (optional).

Staff Photos (Optional) follow steps in student photo settings.

You are now ready to update your device. See Update Device instructions specific to your device platform.

BlackBerry Playbook (Remote Data Transfer)

Blackberry Playbook Remote Data Transfer feature uses a subscription model to assure that the latest school data is on your device. Setup your datasource subscription and when new datasets are detected, they will be transferred to your device. Principalm will check for new datasets when your device connects to a new WiFi network or when you open the login screen.

Subscribe to a Datasource

Select “Manage Datasources”, either from the initial help screen or the Dataset Drop down on the login screen

Check the “Automatically get data via WiFi” checkbox if you would like Principalm to download any new datasets without any intervention from you.

Click “Add” to add the new datasource to your subscription list.

Your new datasource will automatically download your first dataset. It will appear in the datasets dropdown on the login screen once the download is finished. You will be able to monitor the download using the notification tray.

Edit your Datasource Subscription

Select “Manage Datasources” from the Dataset dropdown on the login screen

Select the Datasource you would like to edit.

If you are connected to the same network that the Datasource was added on, then you will be able to alter the server and dataset values. Otherwise you will only be able to edit the Datasource name and notification values.

Change the values as desired.

Select the “Save” button.

Long press on the Datasource you wish to delete.

Select “Delete Datasource”

Your Datasource will be deleted, Click OK to acknowledge.

Please refer to the Remote Data Transfer instructions using the Bonjour Service to send data to your Blackberry Playbook device. (We will be making updates to Connect summer of 2012).

Blackberry Playbook sync to Principalm iPhone Update Service requires WiFi (802.11) network.

Bonjour Service must be installed to locate the IP Address of the computer, where datasets are temporarily hosted.

Transferring data via USB to Blackberry Playbook

Connect the Blackberry Playbook to your computer, using the device’s USB cable.
