The following Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) have been provided for Principalm customers in relation to the new Principalm+™ release. We recommend you read the detailed Principalm+ Release Notes prior to reviewing this document.
What is Principalm+?
Principalm+ is the new name for Principalm.
Why has the product name changed?
We have changed the product name to distinguish between previous versions of Principalm (v7.2 and earlier) and this new release which introduces a new flexible licensing and pricing structure.
What is the new flexible licensing of Principalm+?
The basic idea of the modularization of Principalm+ is to break down the groups of data fields into relevant modules and allow schools to pick and choose which modules they require to meet their unique needs.
Principalm+ allows a customer to do just that. Principalm+ introduces the following modules:
Contacts: includes all of the data fields found within the ID, Contacts and School tabs in addition to the Medical and Notes chapters. The Contacts module also includes the NameGame (formerly LearnFaces) to help learn student names and improve school connectedness. The Contacts module will be required by all schools as it is the foundation piece for all other modules.
Classes: includes all of the data fields found within the Classes, Grades and Attendance tabs. The Classes module is available as an add-on.
Conduct: includes all of the data fields found within the Incidents and Outcomes tabs. The Conduct module is available as an add-on.
What is the new pricing structure?
The pricing structure has changed from a per school annual subscription fee to a per student annual subscription fee that allows unlimited users within a school or district.
Do I have to move to the Principalm+ module licensing and pricing structure?
Yes, all schools are required to move to Principalm+ at the time of their next license renewal. At that time, schools will be required to select which modules they would like to use and will be issued new license keys accordingly. All license keys will support Palm®, Windows Mobile® and BlackBerry® devices.
How will this affect my existing renewal fees?
If a schools subscription renewal fee increases under the new pricing structure, Discovery Software will cap the increase at 15% per year. Please contact our Renewals Department at renewals@discoverysoftware.com or 1-888-569-7711 ext 2221 if you have any questions or to request a renewal quote.
Do I have to upgrade to the newest version of Principalm+ or can I continue to run an older versions of Principalm?
New versions of Principalm+ provide access to the newest devices and fix outstanding bugs that may make your user experience easier. Although previous versions of Principalm will continue to work with your license, there is no reason not to upgrade to the newest release of Principalm+. Support for older releases of Principalm+ will be limited, so we do suggest that all users upgrade to the newest version.
How will this affect my support contract?
Technical support and software updates are included with your annual subscription license.
