Setting up your Photos
Photo setup is done on the Schools screen:
Photos are configured independently for Students and Staff, each in the same way.
These settings tell Principalm Connect where to find your photos, how they are identified, and what effects to apply to them while importing.
Getting Photos
You will need have photos in a folder somewhere that can be accessed from your computer before you can import them.
If your administrator has already configured Principalm, ask her for the location of this folder.
Many school photo companies provide software to make photo setup easier. Here is a list of photo providers that we have instructions for:
Many of our SIS bridges also export photos directly. Your SIS Bridge’s documentation will indicate if this is the case.
Folder
Enter the path to your photos here. If you do not wish to import photos, leave this space blank.
Identified By
Select the method that is used to identify your photos. Choose from:
- Student Number – the photos are named by student number. This is most common.
- SSN – the photos are named by Social Security Number.
- State ID – the photos are named by the student’s state ID
- Photo ID – the photos are named by a field that has been exported from your admin system under the StdPhotoID column header. Your SIS Bridge documentation will let you know if you should use this option.
If you are having trouble deciding which option to choose, please refer to Deciphering Photo IDs for help.
Index File
Some photos come with an index file that maps the file names to IDs assigned to your students and/or staff. If Principalm Connect detects one of these files, it will fill this in for you.
If Principalm Connect does not detect your index file, and you know you have one, you can enter it here yourself.

Crop Photos
Many photo companies take photos that are head-and-mid-torso. These look nice in picture frames, but for identification they may not be optimal. Choose Crop Photos to reduce these photos to head-shots.
Troubleshooting
If you are using a Palm Treo, and your photos are not showing up, please refer to this [Treo 700p Issue].
If your photos are not showing up, and you suspect that the photo ID setting might be wrong, please refer to [Deciphering Photo IDs] for instructions on how to determine this.
