Sync screen
The Sync screen provides numerous ways to access data.
Download
The Download screen shows a list of all available connections over your network.
This information is listed in this way: for the first example: * Planet: This is the computer name where the data is being served from. * Default User: This is the user name of the profile that the data set was created for in Principalm Connect. * 11-03-11 10:30 AM: Date/time the data set was created. Format: YY-MM-DD HH:MM AA
You may also see an animated circular icon at the right side. This indicates that the iPhone is trying to connect to the data set, and may be having trouble.
If the Information listed for a computer is greyed out, this is probably caused by a firewall on your server.
Problems on this screen may be solved by examining this Knowledgebase Article.
Built-In
The Built-In section shows available data sets built in to the system. Currently this only includes our Sample Data set.
Link
The Link page gives you the ability to directly connect to an available data set on your host computer or web server.
You can enter the URL for the host computer as listed on Principalm Connect once a successful update has been completed. This URL can be entered bare, with http:// or principalm:// protocols.
You must enter the path fully qualified with the IP address; port number; and data directory in this format:
- [protocol]://: can be http, principalm or nothing (if you use nothing omit the ://)
- [computer]:: IP address of the host followed by a colon [:]
- [port]/: port number the data is being served on 8080 is the default
- [directory]: The directory of the available data. The directory is the User ID of the Pricnipalm Connect user. default is the directory for the Default User.
Once the URL is entered correctly and the iPhone can connect, you will get a green check mark and a “Ready to Download” message. You can now click the Download Data button to begin your data download.
Serving data to multiple users
Currently Principalm Connect can only serve the last built card to iPhone. Some users may have built sets for multiple users (Principalm, Security Officer, Teachers, etc). In this case you can use the Link screen to access multiple users.
- Use Principalm Connect to build each users’ card, one after the other.
- Once the last card is built you can access the Current user via the Download or Link screen in Principalm
- For the previously built cards you can access the other directories via the Sync -> Link screen
- Just change the directory from _default_ to each user’s User ID (incremental number based on when user was created, ie: 1,2,3,4,5…
Downloading data
Once you begin a download (via the Download or Link pages) a small message window will appear.
You can click Cancel at any time to cancel the download.
If the Download “hangs” on ppmanifest.xml, this may mean that you can view your host computer but do not have full permission to download data. This may be caused by a firewall or similar security measure. See our knowledgebase for more information.
Once complete the program will jump right to the password screen.
If your data transfer takes an exceptionally long time or you encounter “fetch connection” errors while transferring data:
- Generally this means you have a bad wireless connection. Try moving closer to your wireless access point with your iOS device, or making sure there are no walls between you and the connection point.
- we are working on some ways to help out with long transfer times and connection issues.
