Transferring Data
In order to access the data on your hand-held device you must first run Principalm Connect. Principalm Connect will transform the data exported from your Student Information System into a format use able by Principalm on your hand-held device. While Principalm Connect transforms this data it also encrypts it using the password/key you supplied within Principalm Connect.
There are 2 ways to transfer data to your hand-held device
- Wired Connection
- Wireless Connection
Wired Connection
The wired connection can be used to transfer data to Android, Blackberry, Windows Mobile and Palm devices.
- Connect your device to your computer via USB, or attach the card using a card reader
- Your computer should detect the new device and assign it a drive letter (B:,D:,G:, etc; or mount it with a name (Mac))
- If your device does not show up you may need to set Mass Storage Mode, or turn on USB Storage
- Click the Rescan button on Principalm connect so Principalm Connect detects the new drive
- Select the appropriate drive from the Destination drop down.
- Click Update Now…
- Once the update has completed you can disconnect your device from the computer (if you do not disconnect from the computer most devices will not allow Principalm to access the SD card correctly
Your device should now be fully up to date, and ready to run Principalm.
Wireless Connection
The wireless connection can be used to transfer data to iPhone devices.
- Select the iPhone Update Service from the Principalm Connect -> Update Device Screen ->Destination drop down.
- Click Update Now…
- Once the update has completed your data should be available for Sync on your device
The above steps rely on a school setup with an open Firewall port, and an available wireless connection in order to work. If you encounter trouble please look here first: iOS Support.
iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch)
Once you have run the iPhone Update Service from Principalm Connect you are ready to use Principalm on your device.
- Install Principalm
- Start Principalm (click the Principalm icon from your desktop)
- On startup you should see a list of saved data sets. This list may be empty. It also only contains the last downloaded set for each computer previously connected to.
In this example there is one saved set from the computer “gamma” - You can load a saved set by clicking on its name
- If you want to load a new set of data click on the Sync button
- Once you have loaded a data set you will then be taken to the Password screen
Your device should now be fully up to date, and ready to run Principalm.
